The National Service Training Program (PLKN) 3.0 is back, and it will be implemented in stages starting January 2025.

The Deputy Minister of Defense, Adly Zahari, stated that for the first phase, the government has set a small-scale involvement of participants before expanding to the next phase in June next year.

He mentioned that the implementation of PLKN 3.0 will involve participants aged between 16 and 35, with several learning modules established.

“For this PLKN 3.0, the government has allocated RM50 million to initiate its implementation, so we will start this program with the first intake at the beginning of the year, which is next January.”

For this 1st intake, participants will be placed in two camps to ‘pilot’ the PLKN 3.0 project, which will involve approximately 500 participants before it is fully implemented with a larger number in June 2025, reported Berita Harian.

Adly mentioned that 13 military camps have been identified as locations for implementing PLKN 3.0, including in Kuala Lumpur and Pahang, which will be used to accommodate selected participants.

“We will use the existing camps, and they are currently in the process of being refurbished. By 2026, all 13 camps will be used to accommodate participants after the full implementation has been carried out,” he explained

Meanwhile, Adly stated that through the PJM initiative, the Ministry of Defense (MINDEF) has completed repairs on 10 houses in Melaka within the first 10 months of this year.

“To support this initiative, a total of RM138,500 has been allocated by the ministry for the refurbishment of five residences in the Alor Gajah parliamentary area, with the remainder in the Tangga Batu parliamentary area.”

What do you think of the initiative to bring back the PLKN?
