Robbers Get Away With RM349k in Cash After Blowing Up ATM at Setia Alam Bank

After spray painting the closed-circuit cameras (CCTVs), a group of criminal blew up 2 automatic teller machines (ATMs) at a bank in Setia Alam.

With that, they managed to get away with RM349,000 in cash in the robbery on Thursday (February 23) at 6am.

According to a report by Sinar Harian, Shah Alam District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim shared that his party received a report in regards to this incident at about 6:48am.

“Preliminary inspections at the location found that 2 ATMs were badly damaged and believed to have been blown up, of which 1 ATM was successfully opened while the other was not successfully opened by the criminals.”

“The initial investigation found that there were 3 individuals believed to be suspects involved in this incident who were seen entering the ATM area at the bank,” he said.

 

He suspects allegedly escaped in a white Mitsubishi ASX-type vehicle.

“Inspections also found that the CCTV footage at the bank was blurry and unclear because the suspects had used black spray paint. The Forensics Unit, Bomb Disposal Unit (UPB) and Post Ballistics Investigation (PBI) were also called to the scene to flush and assist with the investigations.”

The Forensics Unit explained that the explosion was believed to be created with gas pressure.

“There was no sign of a fire at the scene and no casualties were reported. The estimated loss is RM409,000 of which RM349,000 in cash is involved, while the rest includes the losses of the ATMs,” he added.

Efforts to track down the suspects are underway. Any information related to this case can be channeled to the investigating officer of the case, Assistant Superintendent Mohammad Khairi at 012-2666025.
