The High Court has postponed Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor’s corruption trial after her lawyer, Datuk Akberdin Abdul Kader tested positive for Covid-19.
Based on a report by Harian Metro, Senior Deputy Public Prosecutor Datuk Seri Gopal Sri Ram informed judge Mohamed Zaini Mazlan that two other members of the defense team, Datuk Jagjit Singh and Azrul Zulkifli Stork also need to be quarantined as they were close contacts with Akberdin.
Judge Mohamed Zaini has also received a letter informing him of the situation.
“I understand he (Akberdin) was diagnosed on 12 February. It is unfortunate to hear the news. I wish him well,” he said.
The proceedings and trial has since been postponed to 23 February.
70-year-old Rosmah is accused of soliciting RM187.5 million and 2 charges of accepting bribes amounting to RM6.5 million from Jepak Holdings managing director, Saidi Abang Samsudin, as a reward for helping them get the Integrated Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Hybrid System Project and Genset/Diesel Maintenance and Operation for 369 schools worth RM1.25 billion through direct negotiations from the Education Ministry.
This isn’t the first time Rosmah’s case has been postponed considering she failed to appear in court last December after she was granted access to her passport so that she can travel to Singapore.
The case has also been postponed once due to the lockdowns and another time due to Rosmah and her husband, former Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, becoming close contacts.
