As the world evolves, it’s important for the education system to focus on expanding or enhancing the knowledge of our next generation in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education in Malaysia.

Together with Universiti Malaya’s STEM Centre, Samsung Malaysia Electronics has launched a campaign called Solve for Tomorrow 2021, a competition that inspires Form 1 and Form 2 students from secondary schools nationwide to create solutions that will fix issues faced by society through STEM with support from the Ministry of Education.

According to the Director of Corporate Affairs of Samsung Malaysia Electronics, Dato’ Roh Jae Yeol, “Samsung is dedicated to creating a future that provides a better life for all. Our strength lies in innovation.”

“Therefore, with Solve for Tomorrow, we aim to spark interest in innovation and STEM amongst Malaysian youth. Inspiring this young generation to identify and solve societal problems using STEM will help us support them to create a better future for all.”

In the effort to encourage Gen-Z to enter the competition, Malaysia’s famous content creator and social media influencer, Imran Aqil, who’s currently pursuing Electronic Computer Engineering at Sultan Idris Shah Polytechnic, has partnered with the organisers to be the face of Solve for Tomorrow 2021. Both organizers aim that Imran will be a great role model and inspiration for the younger generation.

The Head of Universiti Malaya STEM Centre, Ir. Dr Mas Sahidayana Mohktar said, “This partnership builds on the programmes offered at Universiti Malaya’s STEM Centre and aligns with the institute’s mission to nurture our leaders of tomorrow.”

“The initiative allows students to apply their learnings and test their innovation capabilities under the guidance of technology and education experts. Our collaboration with Samsung signifies our determination to provide access to digital technology and skills for our youth.”

How to apply

The competition is open to all Form 1 and Form 2 students in secondary schools nationwide. All you need to do is gather a team of three and register online by 3 September 2021 to receive a submission template. Once you complete the submission template, send it back to the organisers by 10 September 2021.

As this year’s competition focuses on two main social issues – ‘Access to Education’ and ‘Environmental Sustainability’, students will need to submit an essay with their respective teams describing an issue and how STEM solutions can be used to solve it.

For more information on the competition, you can check out their website. Prizes in the form of Samsung products worth up to RM30,000 are up for grabs so what are you waiting for? Sign up today!
