She has been dubbed the worst serial killer in the history of the nation by Thai authorities. Sararat Rangsiwuthporn, 36, was detained in April after multiple victims’ families came forward with their suspicions against her.

According to Thai police, she killed people across Thailand between 2015 and 2023 by mixing cyanide into their food.

The majority of her victims were people Sararat owed money to, while others were people she stole from according to police, who added that one of her poisoning targets survived to tell the tale of how Sararat had poisoned her with a pill disguised as “medicine”. This attempted murder came after the victim loaned Sararat a large sum of money…

The painstaking investigation led by Deputy Police Chief Pol. Gen. Surachate Hakparn, with collaboration from multiple departments, meticulously examined over 900 witnesses and a staggering 26,500 documents.

This three-month endeavor which started in April aimed to unearth the chilling truth behind 15 poisoning cases that spanned eight provinces …

Fact 2: A Historical Case

Sararat Rangsiwuthaporn’s sinister crimes mark a historical milestone in Thailand’s criminal landscape. Dubbed as ‘Am Cyanide’, she orchestrated a series of calculated serial murders spanning eight years. Her victims, totaling 14 fatalities and one survivor, fell prey to her poisoning methods disguised as heart attacks.

How did Sararat’s killings go unnoticed for so long?

Fact 3: Cyanide’s Deadly Trail

The investigation revealed a chilling link in the victims’ cause of death – cyanide. Imported from Spain by a Thai company, the cyanide used in these murders had a concentration of 75 percent. The victims, all connected to Sararat in various capacities, were unsuspecting targets of her sinister plot.

Fact 4: It Was All For Money

Sararat’s motives fall in line with criminological research, as female serial killers often pursue financial gain from those close to them. This stark contrast to male serial killers, whose motives often align with sexual desires, provides a chilling insight into the mind of a calculated criminal.

She would be-friend wealthy people and ask to borrow money from them till it comes to a point where she kills them so she can keep the money to herself. After her victims die, she swindles more money from them or rob them of their priced goods like expensive jewellery.

Fact 5: The Charges Laid

Sararat Rangsiwuthaporn, facing a barrage of damning evidence, has been charged with an array of heinous crimes. These charges, exceeding 75 in total, encompass attempted murder, premeditated murder, robbery resulting in death, adulteration of consumables, forgery, and more.

Fact 6: Navigating Legal Waters

The police have affirmed that Sararat’s mental state is sound, dispelling any misconceptions about her eligibility for the death penalty. Contrary to the legal provision safeguarding pregnant women from capital punishment, Sararat’s unfortunate loss of her baby nullifies this protection (she was in the early stages of pregnancy when she was first arrested this year in April).

The court has refused Sararat’s request for bail because they believe she poses a flight risk. She is now behind bars at the Central Women’s Correctional Facility awaiting further trials in court…
