Our country’s first-ever glow-in-the-dark road markings were installed in Semenyih, Selangor by the Hulu Langat and became an instant hit with Malaysians. So much so, that many wanted the initiative to be expanded nationwide.

Well, that’s exactly what happened, with various other roads throughout Malaysia, such as in Johor, getting the glow-in-the-dark markings under initiatives by State Governments and the Federal Government.

Now, Selangor has announced that it will expand the glow-in-the-dark road markings in the state to 15 other locations throughout its 9 districts.

Announced by the Selangor State Infrastructure and Agriculture Committee Chairman Izham Hashim in a Facebook post, he elaborated that the markings will be painted on roads in the state without any street lights. These include 15km of roads in districts such as  Sepang, Kuala Langat and Petaling.

Recording a video while on a site visit to check newly painted glow-in-the-dark road markings along Jalan B17-Sungai Tekali and Jalan B19-Sungai Lalang in Hulu Langat, Izham added that the initiative would be implemented in stages and would cost the State Government RM900,000.

RM1.5 million allocation for new LED street lamps too

Besides that, the Selangor Infrastructure and Agriculture Committee Chairman also revealed that the State Government has allocated RM1.5 million for additional LED street lamps in the state this year for the benefit of road users.

This initiative is under the State Government’s “Selangor Berchaaya” programme which has installed 600 LED street lamps throughout the state.
