Last night, a shooting took place at a shopping complex in Setia Alam, Shah Alam, at around 10 pm, causing chaos at the scene and an injury to a foreign national working as a cleaner at the shopping complex.
According to Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, a statewide manhunt is underway for the gunman involved in last night’s shooting, with police intelligence and investigations suggesting that the suspect is still in Selangor.
Omar Khan said efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the suspect.
“If necessary, we will release a photofit of the suspect to neighbouring police contingents. For the time being, Selangor police will continue to track down this suspect as we believe he is still in the state.”
He said the bullet casings retrieved from the scene will be sent to the Chemistry Department for further analysis.
“We urge anyone with information that could help us track down the suspect to come forward immediately to the nearest police station,” he added.
It was reported that the gunman had been identified as a local man in his 30s with a fair complexion who has a record for 11 criminal and drug-related offenses.
Police are investigating the case under Section 3 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971 for discharging a firearm in the commission of a scheduled offence, which carries the death penalty, and Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder, which provides for imprisonment of up to 20 years upon conviction.
