Random tests conducted in Selangor have detected seven positive Covid-19 cases.

According to The Star, Dr Muaz Omar, chief executive officer of Selgate Healthcare, a unit of Selangor State Development Corp (PKNS), these seven were among 3,408 people randomly tested in several locations.

“Five of them are from Hulu Langat, one from Shah Alam and one from Klang,” he said, adding that the state was actively conducting tests to weed out positive cases in the community.

“We are targeting to test about 5,000 people throughout the entire exercise.”

Screening has been carried out in Hulu Selangor, Puchong, Shah Alam, Klang, Sepang and Gombak since the exercise began in the middle of this month.

Tests are zeroed in on high-risk groups like those above 60 years old and those who have noticeable symptoms like fever, cough and flu.

Once a positive case is identified, the district health office is immediately informed and the patient is isolated and sent for treatment.

As part of the state’s economic stimulus package, an allocation of RM1.35 million has been set aside for screening tests in hotspots and red zones.

However, Dr Muaz said that healthcare workers involved in the exercise are facing their own set of challenges mainly due to the hot weather.

“Dressed in personal protective equipment (PPE), several of them suffered heatstroke and had to be doused with water to be cooled off,” he said.

Remember, not having any symptoms of Covid-19 doesn’t mean you aren’t infected. This is why it’s extremely important for you to stay home during the movement control order to break the chain of infection.
