It is understandable for parents to want their kids to have a leg up over others, but is it worth lying and getting into trouble for?

A Singaporean man was fined S$5,000 (RM17,263) for posing his daughter as a princess from the Selangor royal family and himself as her royal bodyguard so that she would receive special treatment at a 2-day K-Pop concert at the Singapore National Stadium in January of this year.

According to a report by CNA, the man’s daughter had already bought tickets for both days of the concert, for herself and a friend, which the man had paid for.

Though, not wanting his daughter and her friend to have to queue to enter the concert venue, and also wanting to go along with them to ensure their safety, the man decided to hatch a plan.

He contacted the organiser

Upon finding the concert organiser’s phone number online, he called them to inform them that a princess from the Selangor royal family had bought tickets to attend the concert and requested access to enter to ‘protect the princess‘ while explaining that he was her bodyguard.

The concert organiser told the man to arrive early at the venue on the day of the concert so that they could facilitate his entry. He then told his daughter of his plan.

When the day came, the man even dressed in a suit to appear as an alleged royal bodyguard.

Believing his ruse, he was given a lanyard and 2 tickets for the 2-day concert, with special early entry privileges. His daughter and her friend, though, were not given additional tickets as the purchased tickets were valid. All went well for the father-daughter duo and her friend on the first day.

However, the concert organisers felt that something was amiss and some research revealed that they were, in fact, NOT from the Selangor royal family.

When they returned the next day for the second concert date, the police were notified.

While in court, the man admitted his wrongdoing and asked for a lesser punishment as his actions were merely to ensure his daughter’s safety. He was then given the S$5,000 (RM17,263) fine.
