The Covid-19 situation in Malaysia is getting worse as we speak and it’s easy to point fingers at who we think is responsible for it, be it violators of standard operating procedures (SOP) or non-compliant politicians.

And with new cases appearing all over the Klang Valley in schools, shopping malls, banks and office buildings, people are worried and unsure of what to do as the government has not taken any drastic measures to curb the spread of Covid-19 during this third wave.

Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah has admitted that the greatest challenge during this battle against Covid-19 in the country is the “non-compliance to SOPs and complacency at all levels”.

Dr Noor Hisham said this in response to a tweet questioning the government’s actions on closing malls and universities after reports of Covid-19 cases. The tweet also suggested that the “hysteria” needs to stop and that it’s time to “get back to basics”.

But Dr Noor Hisham’s reply is a reminder that the government can only do so much to curb the spread of the virus. The rest is up to the public to strictly follow the SOPs.

“Indeed we know better now than before. Each day brings new lesson and more knowledge on Covid-19,” Dr Noor Hisham said.

“It is true without a shadow of a doubt our greatest challenge is the non-compliance to SOPs and complacency at all levels.”

“Share me a better solution.”

Responding to Dr Noor Hisham, the Twitter user adds:

“I know everyone especially at KKM is doing their very very best to bring things under control. Broadly speaking, apart from enforcement, we need to see how we can strengthen our contact tracing capabilities and make testing more widely available with newer generation tests which are more accessible and cheaper to achieve a better turn around time and coverage.”

It’s no doubt that we were too relaxed when the numbers were low, and those who violated the Recovery Movement Control Order( RMCO) did not help. But we can still turn things around before the situation reaches a critical level.

Hopefully, after almost half a year of dealing with this outbreak, the government is better equipped to handle a new wave like this and that they would do whatever is necessary to keep thins under control.
