A 26-year-old nurse, who is seven months pregnant with her first child, reportedly died yesterday (3 June) after allegedly being in close contact with one of the Covid-19 patients in the ward.

Siti Aishah, who works at the Labuan Hospital, was admitted on 26 May after reportedly testing positive for Covid-19.

Her brother, Mohd Nur Amin Mohd Zamri, 25, from Kampung Serting Tengah, said the last time he met her was in January before she was transferred to the Labuan Hospital. She had followed her husband, Lieutenant Muhammad Iqmall Muhammad Sukri, who works as an air force officer there.

He shared that the last time he contacted Siti Aishah was on 30 May through WhatsApp to give her some words of encouragement, reported Harian Metro.

“At the time, she still experienced a fever, headaches and rapid heart rate for both her and the baby but did not have any shortness of breath,” he said.

“She also contacted my parents and asked for forgiveness as she felt she would not wake up the next day.”

At about 12pm on 31 May, Mohd Nur Amin said that Siti Aishah was admitted to the intensive care unit due to bleeding in her abdomen, although the baby was said to be in good condition.

He added that he and his family were shocked by the news, but also hoped that nothing would happen to his sister.

However, at 11am on 2 June, he said he and his family were woken up by a call from his brother-in-law that Siti Aishah and the baby had passed away.

“The family’s request to bury my sister here could not be implemented due to the current situation of Covid-19 apart from health safety factors,” he said, adding that his sister’s body was safely buried in Labuan at 10am on 3 June.

Despite losing his sister, Mohd Nur Amin said he and his family were calm and even relayed their thanks to the staff at the Labuan Hospital and the Royal Malaysia Air Force who took care of his sister.

He also expressed how proud he was of his sister for her sacrifices as a nurse.

“You had a noble duty Cah… you sacrificed your life to take care of patients and we are so proud of you,” he said.
