B40 employees at Sime Darby Property will see an increase of 80% in their salaries soon.

The company will increase the minimum living wage for its B40 employees to RM2,700 a month from the previous RM1,500 monthly wage.

The new minimum living wage of RM2,700 is RM1,000 higher than the set national minimum wage level. In case you missed it, the government recently raised the monthly minimum wage to RM1,700, since February this year, for employers with five or more employees.

Sime Darby Property chairman Datuk Rizal Rickman Ramli said the adjustment is part of the company’s commitment to ensure its employees’ well-being and inclusive growth. The adjustment takes into account the rising cost of living and is aimed at providing better financial support to low-income workers.

“This initiative highlights our commitment to the financial stability and well-being of our workforce, particularly those most affected by the rising cost of living.”

“This salary increase is part of Sime Darby Property’s broader workforce development efforts under the SHIFT25 transformation plan.”

In 2024, the company recorded a 43% increase in the number of employee training hours and introduced new programs in areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), sustainable development, and urban biodiversity.

“These steps were taken as a group effort to upskill the workforce in line with evolving industry demands and expectations related to environmental, social and governance (ESG),” Rizal said, reported Berita Harian.
