The Ministry of Health confirms that a total of 43 individuals are now Covid-19 positive as a result of the Persons Under Investigation (PUI) Sivagangga Cluster.

The cluster, first reported in Pulau Pinang, witnessed Kedah having reportedly the highest number of cases with 31 infected, 11 in Perlis and one in Pulau Pinang.

It is understood that the individual responsible for the cluster has been in the country since the 31st of July and returned to his hometown, which is now under the Targeted Enhancement Movement Control Order (TEMCO) before confirming Covid-19 positive today.

The first incident of the Sivagangga Cluster happened as a Permanent Resident returned to Malaysia from India on the 13th of July 2020 and was ordered to face house arrest, but failed to follow the regulations in place.

This has led the Kedah state government to initiate TEMCO after four areas became affected by the cluster namely Mukim Ah, Mukim Hosba and Mukim Binjal in the Kubang Pasu District, and, Kampong Ulu, Padang Sanai in the Padang Terap District.

Five schools in Kedah are also closed down immediately until the 29th of August as a result of the TEMCO in place.

The Ministry of Health report has also stated that the latest spread of the Sivangangga Cluster was a result of close contact between the victims, with one case affecting a frequent visitor to a first-generation Covid-19 victim’s restaurant, and another is the husband to another infected individual.

We urge members of the public to remain vigilant and look after one another to break the Covid-19 chain.
