It’s no secret that we Malaysians love instant noodles and often indulge in Maggi, Indomie and a variety of other instant noodle brands as late-night meals.
However, many of the struggling people in our country also rely on instant noodles to keep themselves fed as they are affordable and filling.
Hence why it comes as no surprise that Malaysia’s love for instant noodles was noticed on a global scale too! Our country is currently ranked 13th among countries across the globe with the highest demand for instant noodles, as showcased by the World Instant Noodles Association (WINA).
But that’s not the only statistic that caught our eye! WINA’s data showcases that Malaysians demand for instant noodles have gradually increased over the years.
2016: 1,390 million servings
2017: 1,310 million servings
2018: 1,370 million servings
2019: 1,450 million servings
2020: 1,570 million servings
Taking the top three spots are China/Hong Kong, Indonesia and Vietnam respectively.
While our love for instant noodles has obviously been proven, we should make it a habit to practice consuming our favourite noodles in moderation as instant noodles aren’t exactly healthy.
