As we continue to rejoice yesterday’s high of receiving the lowest number of new cases (36) and zero deaths since the MCO begun, the government discusses what would happen after the MCO is lifted.
According to a post yesterday (20th April) by the Star Online, the government may introduce a “soft landing” approach after the MCO is lifted. As a matter of fact, our Health DG noted that this would mean social distancing and the ban of large gatherings would still continue till the end of the year.
“Even after we have lifted the MCO, we will continue advising the people to stay at home if you do not need to go out of the house. That is the principle. We are definitely looking at an exit strategy. Perhaps when we start (the removal of MCO), it must be a soft landing. What we will return to is not the norm, but a new norm.
“We may take some time, maybe three or six months. Our policies in terms of public gathering must change. Social distancing must remain, and we will continue reminding people to wash hands and to stay at home, ” said Dr Noor Hisham.
Despite the low numbers yesterday, Dr Noor stated how we have won the battle but have yet to win the war.
“The war is not won yet. But neither have we lost it. We have made significant improvement in terms of reducing the number of cases. Today, we recorded 36 new cases, the lowest for quite some time. But we want to see single digits. Maybe we can achieve that in one week. So we need to continue what we did in the first and second phase of the MCO, ” he said.
Our country’s MCO is in its third phase and is set to end on the 28th April 2020 depending on Malaysia’s Covid-19 state.
