If you’re going on a road trip during the Hari Raya festive season, then do be mindful of the speed limits on the road! Most of us are probably on the way to balik kampung already! Keep an eye out for the signboards as you may be surprised because some of the speed limits have actually been reduced in conjunction with the National Hari Raya Aidilfitri Road Safety campaign.

According to NST, these speed limit reductions will be effective on federal and state roads from 8 to 22 June. So, it’s still ongoing ya!

The speed limit for federal roads will be reduced from 90km/h to 80km/h and the speed limit at state roads will be reduced from 80km/h to 70km/h.

The Works Ministry had made an announcement earlier and said that vehicles will be monitored together with the ministry’s Op Bersepadu (joint operations). Don’t worry about getting confused because the speed limit signboards will be changed as well.

“We will issue a directive to the Public Works Department’s Road Maintenance Facility division to change the speed limit signboard along these two types of roads. This is to avoid confusion among road users who will use federal roads and state roads during the festive seasons,” the Works Ministry had said earlier.

Besides, to ensure that the roads are smooth during this festive season, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) has announced that heavy vehicles will be banned from using the roads on these following four days: 13 to 14 June and 23 to 24 June. Therefore, no heavy vehicles should be on the road, especially during peak hours so if you see one, you know that they are breaking the rules!

Have a safe trip, peeps and Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri! 🙂
