Studies have found that academically effective teaching and syllabuses give children’s development a significant boost while they’re still in primary school. The quality of teaching affects both social behaviour and intellectual development in children.

Hence, many are questioning why it is important for primary year one students to learn the names of Proton cars.

The 沙巴人情味 Facebook page took to their profile to showcase a year one Bahasa Malaysia workbook in which requests students to match six Proton car names with their respective images.

They wrote, “This is a standard one homework book! The first-year students need to know the names of these domestic cars?”

While some joked that the workbook is trying to train future salespeople, others wondered why knowledge of Proton car names at such a young age is necessary.

This comment goes, “Cultivating future top sales advisors.”

proton 4

This comment says, “There’s a future in becoming a Proton salesman. X50s haven’t sold enough.”

proton 5

This comment reads, “What’s the point of teaching this?”

proton 6

This comment goes, “It should only be necessary to ask what is the name of the first car produced in our country. Or a few years of production should be enough. Basic cognition is fine.”

Even so, shouldn’t such things be taught in Sejarah (history) instead of Bahasa Malaysia, which is to teach a language?

With the pandemic already severely affecting the progress of children’s educations, it is important, now more than ever, for the education system to catch up with important and qualitative lessons.

And the names of particular Proton cars just don’t seem to cut it as important. Do they?

What do you think about this? Let us know in the comment section.
