If you drive through Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman in KL, be sure to take note of this!
According to the New Straits Times, 1km of Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman will be closed off to pedestrians and buses while other vehicles are not allowed to use this road.
Federal Territories Minister Khalid Samad stated that this will be made effective on 15th March and will involve the stretch from Jalan Esfahan to the Jalan Melayu intersection.

He was quoted by the daily as saying,
“The existing design along the said stretch seems to give priority to pedestrians with wider pavements and a narrow road.”
“We intend to make the route starting from the Sogo shopping complex to Wisma Bandar a vehicle-free road or a pedestrian mall where visitors can walk about and shop,” he added, according to Free Malaysia Today.

The decision to block other vehicles from using this stretch of road was made after a public survey was conducted by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), with many respondents agreeing to this measure.
According to FMT, KL mayor Nor Hisham Ahmad Dahlan added that if this closure led to an improvement to this stretch of road, DBKL could allow traders who applied for business licenses to open stalls during Ramadan. He added that it can also be used for other festive periods as it can accommodate up to 200 lots.
