If you are new parents who are from Sarawak and are expecting a baby soon, you will definitely be glad to read this!
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg just announced that no matter which state your child is born in, every Sarawakian child will receive an incentive worth RM1,000, reported Utusan Borneo.
Abang Johari Tun Openg added that the incentive is given to encourage Sarawakians to bear more children, regardless if they are born in a different state.
He was quoted as saying,
“From 1 January 2019, all the newborns of Sarawak regardless of race, religion and social status will be eligible to receive an incentive worth RM1,000.”
“The money given will be an investment and can only be withdrawn when the child turns 18 with the aim of pursuing higher education.”
The chief minister, who is also the Finance and Economic Planning minister, said that apart from providing Sarawakians savings for further education, this is also a stimulus to get Sarawakians to produce more babies.
He said the statements above during his winding-up speech at the State Assembly (Persidangan Dewan Undangan Negeri; DUN) on 14 November 2018.
“I’m introducing this idea to encourage Sarawakians to have more children, so that we have many of them who are strong and wise enough to defend the interests of this state in the future.”
Well, this is a good initiative imo!
That said, if you have Sarawakian friends or family members who are expecting a baby soon, don’t forget to share this article with them.
