All regular Grab riders, we’ve got some great news for you!
Grab is updating its security features to ensure the safety of their passengers at all times. So, they have sent a notification to their customers via the application requesting the riders take a selfie for identity verification.

In the announcement, which was sent via the app, they said,
“As part of the e-hailing regulations set by the Government, all e-hailing users will be required to submit a selfie for identity verification.”
“To help you meet this requirement, we’ve worked to make submitting your selfie an easy thing to do, right from Grab app.”
Thus, without further ado, here’s how you can take a selfie for Grab’s new safety feature:
- Tap on the Verify with a Selfie button after you open their announcement on Grab app.
- Then, find a “well-lit place” so that the camera can scan your face accurately.
- Make sure you position your head carefully within the white-dotted lines until it turns green.
- Move your head up and down, and voila, your Selfie Verification is done!

If you’re feeling apprehensive about sharing your selfie with the app, you needn’t worry because it’s completely safe. The e-hailing company said that they will never share your photos with their driver-partners. They elaborated,
“We’ll never share this photo with our driver-partners. It’s only for identity verification, safety and assisting the authorities when we are required to do so.”

On that note, do keep in mind that the Passenger Verification will become mandatory starting from 12th July 2019 onwards, and it will be a one-off thing. So, in not so many words, new and old Grab customers are required to take in a selfie for identity verification for safety reasons. Take note, guys!
