Indonesia is set to reach full implementation of its mandatory B40 biodiesel programme, which contains 40% palm oil fuel, starting this March.

The programme was initially poised for implementation starting 1 January 2025 but was delayed due to regulatory issues.

According to Reuters, the B40 diesel reduces the country’s reliance on imported diesel fuel. So far, around 1.2 million kilolitres of fuel have been distributed in the country.

Following the delays, fuel distributors were given until the end of February as a transition period before the B40 mixture was made mandatory.

Indonesia’s Energy Ministry Official Eniya Listiani Dewi stressed that the transition period will not be extended and believed that everyone is making efforts to meet the deadline.

Previously, the blend contained 35% palm oil, with Indonesia gradually increasing the blend over the years to grow its green energy source, as reported by Jakarta Globe.

This year, the country plans to produce 15.6 million kilolitres of B40 diesel, which is expected to save the Government up to IDR147.5 trillion or around RM40.2 billion from cutting diesel imports.
