The Pocket Rockectman is done with the sports arena. Following his shocking disqualification from the Keirin event, Azizulhasni Awang announced his retirement during the campaign for the Paris Olympics.
“It’s not about me anymore”
Speaking to Astro Arena, Azizul said that he is never worried about retiring, all thanks to Shah Firdaus, another cyclist who took over after Azizul’s Keirin disqualification.
“I am never worried. Shah will continue my legacy, and I watched him in the match. I am impressed and I am happy for him,” Azizul expressed.
Talking about Shah’s match, Azizul said that the former should’ve won a bronze medal. Unfortunately, Shah fell after he was hit by the Japanese rider. Regardless, the Pocket Rocketman is convinced that Shah has what it takes to continue his legacy.
“I know his potential.”
In the meantime, Azizul has a message to all Malaysian fans who have been supporting him along the way – it’s time to stop talking about him.
“It’s not about me anymore. I hope all fans can stop talking about me. Now, it’s all about supporting Shah and the new generations. If they need help, I will always be there.”
As of now, Azizul has not come up with a full, detailed plan for his post-retirement life.
“For now, I just want to rest and spend time with my family. I’ll discuss about it with my family after I return to Malaysia.”
For the record, Shah crashed with another rider and ended up coming in 4th before he was relegated by the Olympics, resulting in a 6th-place finish.
