This could be one of the most selfless act a person can do to stop the spread of Covid-19 – by refusing to go back to his hometown for Hari Raya Aidilfitri in fear of spreading Covid-19 to his family.

Universiti Teknikal Malaysia student, Muhammad Ikmal Fariz Norazizan has refused the opportunity to balik kampung along with many of his other friends despite the Ministry of Higher Education announcing that 70,000 local students will be sent home for Hari Raya.

“The implementation of the Movement Control Order in Kulai was another reason I did not go back.”

“My parents supported my decision. Furthermore, there’s nothing much I can do at home during the MCO compared to staying in the college.”

“There are a lot of assignments to be completed, and many of my friends also decided to remain on campus to celebrate Hari Raya.”

Currently, UTEM has sent home 652 students in stages for Hari Raya which began May 7.

Let’s hope that many others will be inspired to opt out of interstate travel to contain the spread of Covid-19.
