Hybrid working has been gaining traction, especially after Covid. It’s clear that remote work has become the preferred choice for many, including in Malaysia.

A recent Zoom study found that 84% of employees feel more productive in hybrid or remote setups compared to traditional in-office environments.

Employees feel more connected to their teams in hybrid settings

The benefits of hybrid work go beyond just flexibility, as hybrid employees report feeling more connected to their teams and managers, with 82% expressing this sentiment.

The study continues to reveal that the focus of discussions about flexible working styles has been productivity, specifically, whether employees can be as effective working remotely as they are in the office.

“84% of leaders said boosting productivity is their top priority when figuring out the best working setup for their company.”

“Feeling connected doesn’t always need in-person interaction”

Thankfully, the study showed that employees are more productive in hybrid setups, with 84% saying they get more done in hybrid or remote work arrangements than in a regular office.

While 72% of people working in person felt very or moderately connected to their manager, a higher percentage of those in hybrid setups (82%) felt the same way.

This suggests that feeling connected doesn’t always depend on face-to-face interaction and that strong relationships can be formed and maintained in various work environments.

Leaders are aiming to make working styles more flexible!

Even though many companies are settling into their new hybrid setups, 75% of leaders believe their organisations will adjust their working styles in the next 2 years.

The survey shows that 82% of leaders plan to make their working styles more flexible over that period.

Most leaders report that their workplaces have already become more flexible in the past 2 years, with 50% saying it’s much more flexible and 45% noting it’s slightly more flexible.

“To create a future-ready workplace, it’s important to keep adjusting based on employee feedback and preferences, and having tech that can evolve along with the organisation is also crucial.”

Methodology used in the study

The Future of Work and IT Leadership surveys were global studies done by Reworked INSIGHTS for Zoom.

Over 600 IT and C-suite leaders and almost 1,900 knowledge workers worldwide were surveyed to get their take on different workplace setups, productivity, and the impact of generative AI.

The surveys were conducted online, with all responses being mandatory and anonymous.
