The Tanjung Pelepas port in Gelang Patah, Johor has been named Southeast Asia’s top-performing port and the 5th most efficient in the world by the latest edition of the Container Port Performance Index (CPPI) by the World Bank Group.

Not only that, but 2 other Malaysian ports also ranked favourably in the index, namely Port Klang and Johor Port, which came in 5th and 8th in Southeast Asia respectively.

A comparable assessment of performance based on vessel time in port, the CPPI 2023 is meant to serve as a reference point for improvement for key stakeholders in the global economy.

Furthermore, the index is based on available empirical objective data pertaining exclusively to time expended in a vessel stay in a port.

In the global ranking, Yangshan takes the top spot, followed by Salalah in 2nd and Cartagena in 3rd.

Tanger-Mediterranean port is placed 4th, with Malaysia’s Tanjung Pelepas completing the top 5 list.

Only 1 other Southeast Asia port made it to the top 10 list which is Vietnam’s Cai Mep in 7th place.

Here are the top 36 list globally:
