Study: Malaysia Ranks 16th Among the Top 30 Largest Economies in the World by 2075

Malaysia has seen major economic growth and change throughout the years. This shift has helped Malaysia become a key player in Southeast Asia as well as the world’s economy, drawing investments and driving development.

Looking ahead, Malaysia’s trajectory toward becoming one of the world’s largest economies has positioned us at the 16th spot among the top 30 largest economies by 2075, according to Insider Monkey.

Largest economies by 2075 in Southeast Asia

According to analysis, the economy of Malaysia is the 16th largest in the world, known for its export orientation and strengths in electronics, palm oil, and natural gas.

By 2075, it’s expected that Malaysia will make up about 1.25% of the world’s GDP, with its economy projected to reach $4.05 trillion (approximately RM16.89 trillion), and the population is estimated to grow to 41.93 million.

Indonesia, ahead at 5th place, is expected to have a 2.59% share of the global economy by 2075. Indonesia’s GDP is forecasted to reach $8.39 trillion (approximately RM35.4 trillion), while its population is expected to grow to 315.82 million by 2075.

Meanwhile, other developing Southeast Asian countries ranked in the top 30 include the Philippines at 14th place, Vietnam at 22nd, and Myanmar at the last spot.

The top 30 largest economies in the world

China leads the world in having the largest economies. By 2075, China’s economy is set to become the world’s largest, powered by manufacturing, exports, technology, and infrastructure investments.

With a projected GDP of $66.16 trillion (approximately RM278.95 trillion), which makes up 20.39% of the global economy, China has already surpassed the United States in terms of purchasing power parity (PPP). China’s population is expected to decrease to 1.02 billion by 2075.

The methodology used in the analysis

Insider Monkey referenced “Economics in the Year 2100” by Fathom Consulting, which provides estimates on countries’ share of global GDP in 2100 and GDP PPP for the top 10 economies. This information was used to compile the list of the world’s 30 largest economies projected for 2075.

Population projections from the United Nations for 2075 were also taken into account. The list ranks these economies by their projected GDP from smallest to largest.
