Study: M’sia is the Safest Place to Retire in Asia For Under USD2,000/Mth Expenditure

Malaysia has recently been named the safest place in Asia for retirement with monthly expenditures of less than USD2,000 or approximately RM9,052 by US-based financial services corporation Nasdaq through its GoBankingRates article.

Specifically, Malaysia ranked first in a list of the 10 safest places to retire in Asia for less than USD2,000 monthly expenses. The list was compiled using several data sources, including:

  • United Nations Pacific-Asia Region Group from WorldPopulationReview
  • Gross domestic product (GDP) from WorldPopulationReview
  • Cost of living figures from Numbeo
  • Global Peace Index from the Institute for Economics and Peace Global Peace Index 2022 Report

As reported by BERNAMA, Nasdaq further clarified that the countries that qualify for the list must adhere to several other metrics, including having a global peace index of under 2.0.

Top of the list is Malaysia with a 1.471 global peace index with USD1,066 or approximately RM4,824 average monthly cost of living. Nasdaq added that our country has a cost of living index of 22.9 and a GDP of USD481.9 trillion.

Making up the top 5 list are Kuwait at second, Mongolia at third, Vietnam at 4th and Indonesia at 5th.
