Study: Only 19% of Malaysians Experience Daily Stress at Work, the 3rd Lowest in Southeast Asia

Workplace stress has become a daily struggle for many, impacting both productivity and overall well-being.

In this context, the State of the Global Workplace 2025 report by Gallup provides insight into how the workplace has impacted Malaysians, as well as workers in neighbouring countries.

Malaysia ranks third lowest for daily workplace stress in Southeast Asia

According to the report, 19% of individuals in Malaysia experience daily stress at work, placing the country 7th among Southeast Asian nations. It should be noted that Brunei and Timor-Leste were not included in the study.

Myanmar tops the list, with 50% of respondents reporting daily stress, followed by the Philippines at 47% and Singapore in 3rd place at 43%.

State of the Global Workplace 2025 Report

Meanwhile, Cambodia ranks 4th (39%), Laos 5th (30%), Thailand 6th (25%), Indonesia 8th (15%), and Vietnam last at 13%.

In Malaysia, the report also highlights emotional strain beyond stress, with 16% experiencing daily anger, 15% daily sadness, and 17% daily loneliness.

34% of Malaysians are considering quitting their jobs

Looking at the job situation in the country today, 62% of Malaysians feel that now is a good time to find a job, while 34% are considering leaving their current position and actively seeking new opportunities.

The primary data for this report comes from the Gallup World Poll, which has been surveying the world’s adult population using randomly selected samples since 2005.

The survey is typically conducted annually, either face-to-face or by telephone, and has covered more than 160 countries and regions since it began.
