In the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, every time we go on the Internet, we’re surprised with some kind of new information or update regarding the pandemic.

While a lot of the news is legitimate, there are some here and there that just makes you scratch your head in disbelief. For example, a research saying that eating kimchi protects you from Covid-19. Well, there is a new update to shock everyone and it says that taller people are more susceptible are more at risk to contract Covid-19.

Not only do tall people have to worry about hitting their heads on low ceilings and not fitting in aeroplane seats, now they have to worry extra about Covid-19???

In a study by experts from the University of Manchester and Open University, they surveyed 2,000 people from the United Kingdom and the United States and found out that people over six feet tall are more than twice as likely to be diagnosed with the Covid-19.

If you’re a tall person, in this situation, how do you get your height reduced?

Well, firstly there’s no need to panic! According to The Telegraph, taller people being higher at risk suggested that the virus also transmits through the air. If the virus were to travel exclusively through droplets, height would not matter.

“The results of this survey in terms of associations between height and diagnosis suggest downward droplet transmission is not the only transmission mechanism and aerosol transmission is possible,” said Professor Evan Kontopantelis, of the University of Manchester.

However, this study still remains unproven as the paper is yet to be published officially. Snopes reported that the paper was only published in the preprint server medRxiv, which means that the findings have not been peer-reviewed. Since the paper hasn’t even been evaluated, it shouldn’t be used to guide clinical practice.

At the end of the day, tall, short, young or old, you know what we should do? Wear your masks and practice physical distancing AT ALL times!
