Many employees around the world struggle with limited paid leave, leaving them with little time to rest or recharge, but have you ever wondered where Malaysia stands on that list?

Well, let’s just say Malaysia isn’t exactly lucky, as the country made it into the top 10 for having the fewest paid leave days.

Malaysia ranked 10th worldwide for the fewest paid leave days

According to Time Out, payroll and Human Resources (HR) company Moorepay looked into paid leave and public holidays across the world to find out which countries give workers the most time off and which ones don’t.

As it turns out, Malaysia landed among the bottom, ranking 10th among countries with the least paid time off. Other Southeast Asian nations on the list include the Philippines in 5th place, Brunei in 7th, and Thailand in 8th.

Topping the list is the United States, followed by Japan in 2nd and Guyana in 3rd. Rounding out the ranking are Liberia in 4th, China in 6th, and Mexico in 9th.

Which countries offer the most paid leave?

While we’re quite unlucky to be placed in the least paid time off list, Yemen ranks first, offering the most annual leave for workers in the country. This is followed by Libya in 2nd and Bahrain in 3rd.

Meanwhile, other countries that made the list are Austria in 4th, Monaco in 5th, the Maldives in 6th, Georgia in 7th, Iran in 8th, the Ivory Coast in 9th and Sweden in 10th.

“We used each country’s average income (based on World Bank data), converted it to US Dollars, and calculated how much the average worker ‘earns’ from their paid leave and public holidays each year,” Moorepay explained.

At least we can take comfort in knowing we’re not completely at the bottom… small victories, right?
