As Ramadan approaches, the thing that most Malaysians will look out for is the various Ramadan bazaars organized every day at several locations across the country.

Though with the advent of the Covid-19 outbreak and Movement Control Order (MCO) in place, local and state authorities have called for a suspension of Ramadan bazaars this year.

Sure it is necessary and most agree to it, but it does take a bit of fun out of celebrating Ramadan in Malaysia.

However, for Subang Jaya folks there is still a glimmer of hope!

Taking to Facebook, SJ Echo announced its initiative to take the bazaar online.

A brainchild of Subang Jaya local Aznur Azman, his idea of taking the bazaar Ramadhan online was well received by the Selangor government.

“I wanted to get the Bazaar Ramadhan market to an online platform. I chose Facebook as it is a general and most common online platform for everyone to use.”

“The Selangor government has also encouraged us when it said Selangorian could buy and sell through online platforms for Ramadhan.”

Rejoice!

“Many people are reeling from the effects of Covid-19 and the Movement Control Order which was put in place to curtail the spread of the virus. Many small business owners were forced to close shop and this has impacted them in many ways.”

“This Ramadhan Bazaar platform will give the opportunity to small business owners who normally trade at bazaars the opportunity to go online to sell their food and products.”

When asked why he did this, Aznur said that it is his duty as a youth living in Selangor to help his community in these tough and trying times.

Let’s hope that there are more out there like Aznur who would think of ways to help out their communities in light of the Covid-19 outbreak.
