The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has decreed that the suspension of all activities in mosques, suraus and musollahs will be extended until May 31.
In a statement issued on Monday (April 13) by his private secretary Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani, His Highness said the decision was made to protect the people of Selangor from Covid-19 infection. The activities concerned are Friday and congregational prayers, talks and lectures. All these activities usually involve mass gatherings.
“Every citizen must be even more serious in efforts to overcome the pandemic by staying at home, ensuring personal cleanliness and health as well as observing social distancing,” he said.
According to The Star, Sultan Sharafuddin also said tarawih prayers in the month of Ramadan were to be performed at home and Friday prayers must be replaced with Zuhur prayers.
“However, if the infection is able to be contained earlier, a new order will be issued,” he said.
The Sultan’s private secretary then reminded everyone to adhere to the government and follow the guidelines given by the Ministry of Health.
According to Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani, Sultan Sharafuddin is also concerned about the circulation of fake news and videos regarding the pandemic. Fake news and unverified information has been on the rise ever since the pandemic has started.
In view of this, Sultan Sharafuddin reminded all parties to be more responsible and avoid fabricating news that could cause worry in the society.
