In a bid to reduce the spread of Covid-19, Sarawak United People’s Party has suggested that the Sarawak state government should impose a 30-day ban to stop any Peninsular Malaysians from coming into the state.

The secretary of SUPP Dudong branch Dr Wong Chya Wei said, as reported by Malay Mail, that the ban is an important step to reduce the spread of the virus, on top of asking any Sarawakians returning to the state to go through a supervised quarantine of 14 days. He elaborated,

“The Covid-19 situation now has entered another phase. It is serious that we take urgent and aggressive measures to contain the spread.”

Sarawak previously had no case but on Friday (13 March), three cases were confirmed, including two individuals who attended the Tabligh gathering in Kuala Lumpur. On Saturday (14 March), the number increased by another six cases and all of them had attended the same gathering.

What do you think of this suggestion? Is it a necessary step to take to ensure the spread of Covid-19 is controlled or is there a better way to deal with it at the moment? Share with us your opinions in the comments section below.
