Following the High Court’s decision to sentence Muar MP Syed Saddiq to 7 years in jail, 2 strokes of the cane, and a RM10 million fine, the Court of Appeal has allowed temporary release of his passport for travel to Singapore and Taiwan.

According to reports by New Straits Times, Syed Saddiq has requested temporary permission to use his passport for 2 upcoming events in Singapore and Taiwan.

His passports needs to be returned to the court by June 18

The 31-year-old’s intentions are to attend the wedding of a close friend’s daughter in Singapore on May 18. He was also invited by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia to represent Malaysia and visit Taiwan from June 10 to 15.

Justice Hadhariah Syed Ismail, leading a 3-member panel, requested that the ex-Muda president to give his passport to the court by June 18th.

The court also approved a request from Syed Saddiq’s lawyer, Datuk Hisyam Teh Poh Teik, to draft a letter addressed to the director-general of Immigration. The letter will grant Syed Saddiq permission to travel abroad.

Syed Saddiq faced charges last year for helping Rafiq Hakim Razali, who was entrusted with RM1 million of Armada’s funds, in committing criminal breach of trust by misappropriating the funds.

Following his charges, Syed Saddiq went as far as to assure media friends that he wouldn’t remain silent and would fight for an appeal.
