As the pandemic restriction eases, it seems that many countries are open to accepting tourists.

On 5 September, according to CNA, Taiwan’s Bureau of Consular Affairs have released a table chart on their website, mentioning that selected countries will be eligible to enter Taiwan without a visa starting from 12 September.

The countries mentioned in the list are allowed to stay in Taiwan for a maximum of 90 days without a visa and Malaysia was in the said list.

But, on Tuesday (6 Sept), the webpage was updated to show that a few countries from the initial list have been removed.

According to the said list, the countries that are NOT ALLOWED to enter Taiwan without a visa are:

  • Chile
  • Dominican Republic
  • Israel
  • Japan
  • Republic of Korea
  • Nicaragua
  • Singapore
  • Malaysia
  • Brunei
  • Thailand
  • Philippines
  • Russia

However, Taiwan emphasised that the restriction against these countries is made based on pandemic border control. Travelers who wish to enter Taiwan are still required to:

  • Perform a Polymerase chain reaction test (PCR) upon arrival.
  • Undergo 3 days quarantine upon arrival.
  • Cap of 50,000 travelers a week will remain.

Do you think this decision is fair?
