Earlier today, the Kuala Lumpur High Court dismissed former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s application to serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest.

On 10 July, the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) confirmed the existence of the ‘Titah Adendum’, an additional decree issued by the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong (YDPA), which requests that Najib serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.

Najib to appeal rejection of house arrest bid

With today’s ruling by Judge Alice Loke Yee Ching, Najib will continue serving his sentence at Kajang Prison until the full term is completed.

Following this, Harian Metro reported that Najib will appeal the rejection of his bid to serve his reduced six-year jail term for his SRC International conviction under house arrest.

His lawyer, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, later expressed his disappointment, pointing to issues surrounding the Titah Adendum that remain unresolved even after nearly two years.

“There has clearly been dishonesty in this matter, as we were misled all along when the existence of the addendum was denied.

“We are requesting the original copy of the Titah Adendum because it’s crucial to know who holds it, how it was issued, and who hid it,” he added.

Dr Akmal responds to Najib’s failed house arrest application

In response to the verdict, UMNO Youth Chief Datuk Dr Akmal Saleh shared his thoughts on the YDPA’s decree, which was initially said to exist but later deemed legally insufficient by the High Court.

“When it came to forming the government, the YDPA’s decree was used as the main justification. But today, the decree is said to be invalid. The people are capable of judging for themselves,” he wrote.

Meanwhile, in a video, he also urged UMNO to withdraw its support from the current government, stressing that it is better for the party to be a dignified opposition than to be humiliated by its allies, referring to comments made by DAP National Publicity Secretary Yeo Bee Yin.

Yeo’s remarks drew Akmal’s criticism following her Facebook post on Najib’s earlier court verdict, in which she wrote,

“Another reason to celebrate this year-end.”

“Posting it publicly is an insult to UMNO”

Akmal warned Yeo that her post was seen as an insult to UMNO as a whole, and reminded her to reflect on the rejection of her party by the people of Sabah in the recent Sabah State Election.

“While many UMNO members are grieving, it seems some DAP leaders are rejoicing. You may celebrate if you want, that’s fine, but posting it publicly is an insult to us, the UMNO members here.

“I urge UMNO members, from the branch level to the top leadership. Enough is enough. We should teach them a lesson by withdrawing our support. Let us remain a dignified opposition,” he said in the video.
