Wong Jian Boon, 32, who appeared in a black t-shirt to court nodded when his charge was read to him in mandarin, no plea was taken, The Star reports.
Rage and jealousy had led Wong to kill 31-year old Tan Chuen Take, who allegedly tried to woo his 22-year old girlfriend.
Tan worked as an engineer for an oil exploration company in Singapore. When he failed to turn up for work and did not apply for leave, his employer lodged a police report in the island republic.
Victim, Tan Chuen Take was killed after trying to woo Wong’s girfriend
The victim’s family had also reported Tan missing on June 26. Tan was last seen a day before that — a closed circuit television (CCTV) footage from his residential area showed him leaving his house around 5pm.
On July 1st, Wong and his girlfriend were arrested and detained for investigations. Shortly after, the victim’s body was then discovered buried in a forest near Kulai, next to the Second Link Expressway.
Wong from Kulai, Johor also worked in Singapore and had allegedly killed the victim on June 22, between 8pm and 11.30pm at the premise, No.2759, Jalan Cempaka 36/17, Jalan Indahpura, Kulai.
The accused is currently charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code where if convicted carries a mandatory death sentence.
Currently the court is awaiting the results and reports of the deceased’s post-mortem. Magistrate Noor Aisyah Ahmad had fixed August 29 for the trail.
In regards to the 22-year old object of affection, State CID chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat told the press the woman was released on bail on Monday. She was granted bail and would act as the key witness in the case.
