If there’s one thing we can all agree on as Malaysians, it’s that the best part of any festive season is unarguably all the festive FOODDD!
Well, we recently had an early start to our Christmas celebrations when Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa invited us to feast on their festive Christmas offerings. Staying true to their theme of ‘The Greatest Christmas Show’, the chefs really went above and beyond, providing us with a delicious feast featuring mouthwatering foods ranging from Roasted Brined Turkey with Dried Fruit Stuffing, Slow-roasted Wagyu Beef Striploin and a sumptuous Seafood Tower. Yup, we definitely ate our heart’s out!

The sumptuous Seafood Tower
To kickstart our afternoon of feasting, we were greeted with an extensive spread of seafood that foodies would surely approve of! The Seafood Tower is unarguably the show-stopping experience of this year’s feast, boasting fresh selections such as:
- Live Irish Oysters
- Abalone Clam & Green Mussels
- Tiger Prawn, Flower Crab & Baby Octopus
- Salmon Gravlax and Salmon Sashimi
- and plenty more!
There was honestly too much to choose from, but our personal favourites were the Salmon Gravlax and Live Irish Oysters which were incredibly fresh and flavourful. We (and our tummies) definitely enjoyed ourselves!
The jaw-dropping and tantalising flavours of the meat section
If you love meat, then you’re in for a treat! Honestly, there were so many options that we ended up stuffing ourselves full! What we loved overall was how tender and juicy the meats were. Not only that, but the chefs also outdid themselves by presenting delicious creative dishes that were unfamiliar to us.
- Slow-cooked Duck Breast with Truffle Jus
- Grilled Lamb Shoulder with Pommery Mustard Jus
- Whole Lamb on Briyani Rice. We must say that this was a creative Middle Eastern twist!
Each dish was delightful on its own and we can tell that the team put in a lot of hard work in preparing such grand feast. Here are our personal favourites.
1. Roasted Brined Turkey
If you’ve never had traditional Christmas fare (but always wanted to after watching Hollywood Christmas movies growing up), here’s your chance. The holiday special was roasted to perfection with juicy and savoury flavours which excited our taste buds. Don’t forget to pair it with a dab of their housemade sauces too, which compliment the turkey well, adding a whole new dimension of flavours.
2. Wagyu Beef Shawarma
This was hands down our favourite dish of the buffet, but we may be biased because it was our first time trying out wagyu beef in a shawarma :p. This creative take gave us goosebumps due to how tender and juicy the meat was — we kid you not, it literally melted in our mouths! The sauces coupled with the juicy flavours of the beef was simply divine and we had to stop ourselves from going back for more.
3. Slow-roasted Wagyu Beef Striploin
Another noteworthy mention is the Wagyu Beef Striploin. A quick chat with one of the chefs revealed that Wagyu beef derives from four specific breeds in Japan which are genetically unique due to the marbling of fat inside of their muscle tissue. This results in a rich and luscious cut of beef that dissolves in your mouth once it hits your tongue. No wonder lah! Honestly speaking, we would have gone back for more if we weren’t trying to save some room for desserts.

What caught our attention the second we walked in was the extensive spread of desserts! All the desserts were sinfully delectable and not to mention IG worthy as well — kudos to executive Chef Peter Lee and his team.

- Breading Pudding with Pumpkin
- Dresdner Stollen

Our personal favourite was the Chocolate and Red Velvet Yule Log Cake, which was moist and velvety without being overly sweet. We left with our sweet tooths thoroughly satisfied in what was a fitting end to our afternoon of feasting.
All things considered, we were really impressed with the buffet — and judging from our new waistlines we’d definitely say you’re in for a proper feast 😉
