“I feel a little sad about this transition”

Tengku Zafrul delivered an emotional farewell during his final report presentation, even joking that he had hoped to stay with MITI a little longer since there were still some “red marks to fix”, as reported by Sinar Harian.

“I do feel a little sad about this transition. But legally, a minister must be a member of the Dewan Rakyat, so I can’t continue in this role,” he said.

He also thanked the MITI team for their constant support during the press conference announcing the ministry’s Third Quarter 2025 Performance Report Card today.

He further said that decisions about his successor and the ministry’s future direction are now entirely up to the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and the new government leadership team.

His replacement is yet to be announced

Tengku Zafrul added that his main focus at the moment is to make sure the transition goes as smoothly as possible.

He also made it clear that there have been no official talks yet about him continuing in any role at MITI. Meanwhile, he emphasised that he has not yet been informed about who will succeed him as MITI Minister.

“If needed, I’ve let the leadership know that I’m ready to help. For now, I’m just waiting for instructions from the Prime Minister on any future role,” he said.

As to why he had to vacate his position in the Cabinet, you can read our article explaining the legal side of things here.
