Tg Pagar Crash: Driver Bought Second-hand BMW For Over RM609k; Allegedly Took Friends on Joyride Before Crash
The white BMW involved in the Tanjong Pagar accident on 13 February, was a secondhand car allegedly purchased by Jonathan Long, the driver who died in the crash.
According to Lianhe Wanbao, one of Long’s friends, who wishes to remain anonymous, said that Long had purchased the secondhand car a few months ago for the price of over S$200,000 (RM609,571.60).
The original price of a new 2021 BMW M4 Coupe can cost over S$450,000 (approx. RM1,371 536.10) in Singapore.
Another friend said that on the day of the incident, Long and his group of friends went to a Korean restaurant near the location of the accident to celebrate Chinese New Year. The friend believes that Long wanted to take his four friends for a drive to “test the car”.
According to residents that were interviewed by Lianhe Wanbao, several people were seen getting into a white BMW which circled the area a few times. Eventually, the car somehow lost control and crashed into a shophouse before going up in flames.
Previously, it was reported that Long’s fiance had tried to save him from the burning car, but suffered severe burns to 80% of her body. The Malaysian-born getai singer is now receiving treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU) in Singapore General Hospital.
Five men died in the accident, namely, Jonathan Long (29), Gary Wong Hong Chieh (29), Eugene Yap (29), Elvin Tan Yong Hao (29) and Zhang Qixiang (26).
