T’ganu PDRM Officer Remanded 6 Days for Allegedly Taking RM25k Bribe to “Turn a Blind Eye” on a Drug Case

A police officer in his 30s has been remanded for six days after he was suspected of asking for and receiving around RM25,000 in bribes to avoid taking action in a case.

According to Sinar Harian, the remand order (which lasts until May 25) was issued by Senior Assistant Registrar Yuhanis Mohd Roslan after MACC Terengganu made the request at the Kuala Terengganu Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

The bribes were transferred to his and his wife’s account

The man was reportedly arrested around 3PM on May 19 (Monday) when he showed up at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office in Terengganu to give a statement.

The incident is believed to have taken place in October 2020.

He’s suspected of asking for and receiving bribes, both in cash and through bank transfers to accounts under his and his wife’s names.

He took bribes to avoid taking action in a drug-related case

The man is suspected of receiving the bribes in exchange for not taking action against an individual under the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act 1985.

Meanwhile, Terengganu MACC Director Hazrul Shazreen Abd Yazid confirmed the arrest when contacted.

The case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(b) of the MACC Act 2009.
