Amid the uproar involving the Jalur Gemilang being displayed incorrectly by a hardware store in Penang, Terengganu UMNO Youth is also facing backlash from the public for posting an image of the national flag with the wrong design.

Malaysians quickly noticed that the flag in their post had only 12 stripes instead of the required 14.

“I don’t just want an apology”

MCA Youth Secretary-General Saw Yee Fung also took a jab at the mistake, sarcastically asking if Akmal had ever taught Terengganu UMNO Youth how to recognise the correct Malaysian flag, while cheekily daring them not to delete the post.

In response, UMNO Youth Chief Dr Akmal Saleh shared his thoughts and called on the police to take action against the person responsible for the blunder.

“I don’t just want an apology, even if this is Terengganu UMNO Youth. I want the police to investigate and take firm action,” he said.

He maintained that his strong stance wasn’t about politics, but about showing respect for the national flag and what it represents.

“To Anthony Loke, we’re not hypocrites like you”

Speaking about DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke’s earlier comments on the upside-down flag incident at a shop in Penang, Akmal made it clear he wouldn’t turn a blind eye to mistakes made by his own team.

“It doesn’t matter who you are, your race, or your political beliefs, even if it’s my own people, wrong is still wrong. I want the police to investigate and take firm action against the person who made this poster. It’s unacceptable, even if it comes from family or friends,” he said.

This comes after Akmal strongly criticised a Penang hardware store owner for putting up the Malaysian flag upside down.

“I also want to tell Anthony Loke, just recently, a Malay news outlet reported that Terengganu UMNO Youth made a poster with the Malaysian flag missing two stripes. I’ve checked, and the error came from the person who designed the poster, and we own up to it. I’m personally calling for tough action to be taken, or for a police report to be lodged against the person who made it,” he said in a video.

“I take full responsibility…”

In relation to the incorrect national flag graphic, Terengganu UMNO Youth has since issued a public apology for the error.

In a video, its chief, Tengku Haphiz Tengku Putera, admitted it was a careless mistake and said it should never have happened. He also took full responsibility for the slip-up and revealed that the poster was made by a freelance designer for free.

“For your information, the designer who created this poster was affected by the recent issue involving the inverted Jalur Gemilang, and coincidentally, his own oversight was unintentional…

“Thanks to all Malaysians for pointing it out. We’ll continue to stand with everyone in saying there’s zero compromise when it comes to mistakes involving the Jalur Gemilang,” he said.
