Narathiwat police have advised Malaysians traveling to Southern Thailand not to visit fishing villages identified as drug hotspots.

According to a report by New Straits Times, Narathiwat Province Police Chief Colonel Pratya Baite said today that drug traffickers in the province will usually choose fishing villages to build their dens.

“We received information that drug dealers in this region will use these villages as places to collect and sell drugs to local dealers. Therefore, the Narathiwat police will carry out regular operations in these villages to arrest those involved. The operation will be carried out around the clock, and so far, it has been successful,” he said.

Therefore, he advises Malaysian tourists not to visit fishing villages to avoid unwanted incidents.

In the meantime, Pratya said, Yaba pills and heroin are still the most popular drugs sought by Malaysian dealers in Thailand.

He added that this is based on information from Thai drug suppliers who were arrested by the authorities.

“For the past two years, the district police have not arrested any Malaysian drug dealers, however, we have arrested many Thai dealers who say these two types of drugs are popular among Malaysian dealers,”

“Malaysian pushers will usually buy drugs from Thai dealers near the border, such as from the small district of Sungai Golok,” he added.
