Just months ago, the Minister of Home Affairs Dato’ Seri Hamzah bin Zainudin urged Malaysians to refrain from consuming marijuana products while in Thailand, as it is still illegal in our country.

Now, the Thai Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul is chiming in on that sentiment by discouraging tourists from going to Thailand with only the interest of consuming cannabis products.

We don’t welcome those kinds of tourists,” he said when questioned by reporters in regards to foreign tourists and their recreational marijuana use.

This comes after new laws were passed in Thailand that decriminalised cannabis, as according to a report by NDTV.

Despite the now widespread and public use of marijuana in the food and beverage industry there, smoking cannabis in public in Thailand is still considered illegal and poses a 3-month jail sentence as well as fines of up to 25,000 baht (RM3,135.68).

Anutin did however add that their country may explore the recreational use of marijuana with a better understanding of the cannabis.

“It might come in the near future.”

Stay tuned for more updates!
