Thailand is expecting over a million of Malaysian tourists to visit the country by the end of this year following the reopening of borders between our countries back in April 2022. In fact, since the borders have reopened, over 600,000 Malaysians have visited the country, especially to Hat Yai and other provinces.

As reported by Bernama, Thai Ambassador to Malaysia, Chainarong Keratiyutwong asserted,

“We expect visitors to increase and exceed a million by year-end, which will help restore our economic and tourism sector after we were hit by the Covid-19 pandemic,”

Chainarong was speaking to reporters after officiating the Thai Festival 2022 at the Royal Thai Consulate General in Kota Bharu, Kelantan yesterday. He said that the two-day festival was an important mechanism to boost and build close ties between Malaysia and Thailand.

Through such a festival, Chainarong said that the Thai people are able to showcase their food and products from Thailand and urged the Malaysian government to hold a similar festival in Thailand to promote Malaysian products and food there.

Of course, in recent years, tourists are flocking to Thailand for other reasons than just sightseeing, which have something to do with the country decriminalising marijuana. Well, for those that are planning to visit Thailand soon, do remember that the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has warned Malaysians to not bring back cannabis or return stoned!

So, what do you guys think of the statement by the Thai Ambassador to Malaysia? Are you planning to visit Thailand any time soon? Share your thoughts with us in the comments!
