Tourism plays a huge role in Thailand’s economic growth and the pandemic has severely affected the industry, decimating the industry and all its related businesses. Hotels, aviation, tour operations, restaurants, attractions, retail, medical tourism, meetings, conferences and agricultural supply chains are among those struggling because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Hence, with the start of a global vaccine roll-out, Thailand’s tourism industry is pushing the country to open its doors for vaccinated tourists.

Hence, the #OpenThailandSafely was launched recently to urge the Thailand government to consider opening up the country safely starting 1 July for tourists that can show proof that they have been vaccinated and they can come into the country without being quarantined.

As mentioned on the website, the majority of the global population, especially those who potentially want to visit Thailand will already be vaccinated and the government will have enough time to vaccinate those in the tourism industry who will be handling the arrival of these tourists. The statement also explained,

“The 1 July reopening would be a strategic opportunity for Thailand to show a leadership role among Asian countries and prepare the way for a solid recovery of the Thai economy in 2022.”

At the moment, there’s even a petition going with a goal of 100,000 signatures in a bid to garner support for the campaign to urge the government to consider their suggestion and ultimately put Thailand on the right path to economic recovery. You can show your support by signing the petition here. We are sure that a huge number of Malaysians miss going to Thailand and with our own vaccination program happening at the moment, some of us might consider travelling again if the borders are open.
