Bersatu President, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, claimed that the Unity Government led by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has failed to fulfill its reform promises, and has instead burdened the people with confusing policies.

He said the people are increasingly pressured due to the removal of subsidies, tax hikes, and the introduction of new taxes that have driven up the prices of goods and services.

“Subsidies have been removed, tax rates increased, tax scope expanded, and new taxes introduced, causing prices of goods and services to soar.”

The people are increasingly burdened. This is truly a government that is not concerned about the people’s welfare,” he said during his speech at Bersatu’s 2025 Annual General Assembly in Shah Alam last night (September 6).

Muhyiddin, who is also a former Prime Minister, further criticised the government’s failure to fulfill previous promises, including issues related to fuel prices, tolls, PTPTN loans, and political appointments.

He explained that the government is also facing a crisis of confidence due to allegations of political interference in corruption prosecutions and weaknesses in national governance.

He emphasised that economic data also reflects the current administration’s shortcomings, with declining economic growth, plunging foreign direct investment (FDI), and trade surplus falling to its lowest level in recent history.

“In contrast, under the Perikatan Nasional administration, economic recovery was faster and stronger despite the country being hit by the Covid-19 pandemic. Malaysia recorded high growth, strong trade, and rising investor confidence,” he said.

Therefore, according to Muhyiddin, the people are now demanding major change, and Malaysia must be saved and placed back on the right track.
