Getting married is an expensive affair and you often have to shell out quite a lot of money for this occasion. However, for Selangorians, they can actually be rewarded by the state government for getting married!
The Selangor state government has a really cool incentive programme where you and your spouse will be given RM500 each if you get married before 35 years old. So, you can get RM1,000 in total!
Known as Insentif Perkahwinan Belia which is handled by Yayasan Warisan Selangor (YAWAS), you are entitled to receive the money as long as you apply within one year of your marriage date. Plus, you can apply for this online!
Here are the terms and conditions for eligible candidates;
- Malaysian citizenship
- Born in Selangor OR
- Not born in Selangor, but must have a Selangor address in MyKad or have lived in Selangor for at least 10 years (needs relevant verification)
- Must be younger than 35 years old when the application is made
- First marriage only
- Applications can be made within 12 months from your marriage date
- Applications must be before the 12 months have passed
- The 12 months deadline is only for applicants who got married from January 1, 2017
Before this, applicants only had six months to apply for this little ‘gift’ from the Selangor government, but the deadline has since been extended from the year 2017. It’s actually really simple to apply, all you need is your MyKad, your marriage certificate (from the National Registration Department or State Islamic Religious Department), and your residence verification form (for those who are not born in Selangor).
If your application is approved, you will be given a Sijil Simpanan Premium worth RM500 from Bank Simpanan Nasional which can be sold back to the bank for cash within 45 days if you prefer. If not, you can just keep it! This programme is available for all ethnicities and religions.
