Donald Trump, the 45th President of the United States, is known for his infamous misconceptions of the world’s geography. For instance, he called Belgium a city during one of his campaign speeches in Atlanta. It’s a country, mate!
In a similar fashion, he once indicated that Paris was situated in Germany through a heartfelt tweet that addressed a gun-shot incident that took place in Paris, France.
Hence, following in the footsteps of their leader,The Star reported that the US Department of State recently indicated that Singapore was a part of Malaysia on the Remarks at Press Briefing’s transcript that was posted on its official website.
Bruh, Singapore left us in 1965 to form the independent Republic of Singapore lah!
The indication was made when the venue was described as “JW Marriott, Singapore, Malaysia” in the transcript of a press briefing that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo gave on Monday (11 June 2018) in accordance to the America-North Korea summit.
Nevertheless, as of today (12 June 2018), the department has realised its mistake as the description on its site has now been changed. Maybe it was just an honest mistake!
Since they have corrected the description, we should probably cut them some slack and hope that in the future, they would be extra careful with what they post on their official department site. Always double-check your facts, guys!
On a side note, Pompeo’s briefing was about the outcomes of the discussions that would take place today (12 June 2018) between Trump and Kim Jong-un.
If you didn’t know, Trump’s meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is expected to end North Korea’s nuclear weapon and missile programmes, while creating a truce between both countries.
Hopefully, both leaders will find a common ground that would favour the politics and economics of America and North Korea.
What do you think of the US Department of State’s mistake in thinking that Singapore was in Malaysia? Let us know in the comments!
