The Covid-19 pandemic shut down plenty of major events with one of the most missed being the annual Big Bad Wolf Book Sale.

However, we were pleased to find out that the massive book sale which had bookworms squirming from all over the nation to get their books, is finally back after a 2 year hiatus.

This year, the Big Bad Wolf Book Sale is back at Mines International Exhibition & Convention Centre (MIECC) from 20 December 2022 to 2 January 2023 with more than 3.5 million books and discounts up to 95% off.

As a slight change from its previous editions where it used to be open 24-hours, this time, the Big Bad Wolf Book Sale will stay open from 10:00am to 2:00am every day.

For those who are familiar with the major book sale, admission is free, and the huge range of books are split into designated categories such as fiction, non-fiction, children and local.

Children can find their favourite Disney series ranging from story books to activity books at the Book Sale

The idea behind it

In an interview with WORLD OF BUZZ, co-founder of the Big Bad Wolf Book Sale, Andrew Yap, said that the inspiration behind it came about after they had realised that by creating something huge such as a yearly event, it would do a lot to encourage more Malaysians to read.

In regards to this year’s sale compared to editions in the past, he said that this year’s sale features more F&B vendors, a bigger selection of Malay books, the bringing back of Chinese books and the introduction of books for the Indian community.

Not just books!

For those who would like to take a step back and take their time whilst browsing through the enormous amount of available books, the Big Bad Wolf Book Sale has also partnered with various local vendors and food chains such as Pizza Hut, Tealive and A&W to ensure that you stay energised!

To top the excitement, customers who attend the Big Bad Wolf Book Sale also have the opportunity to participate in a *Lucky Draw where 5 winners will be picked daily for a chance to win a RM50 voucher.

One lucky winner will walk home with the Grand Prize of a trolley full of books of their choice! To participate in the Lucky Draw, a customer has to spend RM200 on a single receipt and be eligible for one Lucky Draw ticket.

The other contest not to be missed is the ‘Spend, Share & Win’, where a winner will take home a Gaming PC worth RM6,999 (Big Bad Wolf KL Edition) sponsored by PCU.

All you need to do is spend a minimum of RM250 on a single receipt and post a picture of the purchase with the hashtag #BBWXPCUKL in the caption. The winner will be selected based on the most creative post and caption.

A part to play

You can also play your part by donating books to several orphanages in Malaysia with Big Bad Wolf Books’ CSR initiative, the Red Readerhood (RRH) programme which is collaborating with 2 NGOs, Friends to Mankind Malaysia’s The Book Effect project and Project AIME, a Malaysian-based youth-lead activist.

“The RRH program is our way of giving back to the community by working with local organisations and donating books to those in need and as part of the company’s primary mission – ‘Changing The World, One Book At A Time’. Big Bad Wolf Books is pledging 500 books each to Friends to Mankind Malaysia and Project AIME,” said Jacqueline Ng, Co-Founder of Big Bad Wolf Books.

donate

“We also like to invite and encourage our customers and visitors to the Book Sale to be part of the book donation drive by choosing and donating a book or two from the Red Readerhood corner,” she added.

To do this, visitors can opt to buy as many books (which all cost less than RM10) as they’d like from a special counter and then put these books into a huge box which would then eventually be donated to the orphanages.

For more information and updates on the latest discounts and happenings, do checkout their Facebook, Instagram and website.

With only a few days to go, we hope that Malaysians do checkout the Big Bad Wolf Book Sale and even better, donate books to several orphanages in Malaysia through their initiative.
